Sonoma
County is an area rich in natural beauty, history, and variety.
Its sightseeing venues extend from its western reaches with coastal
beaches, tide pools, and whale watching to its scenic highways
leading eastward to the neighboring wine regions of Napa, Calistoga
and St. Helena. San
Francisco is only 70 miles to the South. |

To
the north, Sonoma County (known also as the Redwood Empire) is
bordered by groves of giant Redwoods. Just a short scenic drive
southwest of Healdsburg is the beautiful, old growth redwood forest
preserve, Armstrong
Redwoods State Reserve, where you can picnic, walk, and
hike among towering trees...
highly recommended!

In
a wooded area, 1-3 miles from Healdsburg's plaza, our homes
rest along the banks of a particularly scenic portion of the
Russian River. While lounging on the decks, guests enjoy clear
views of the river's natural setting and wildlife viewing opportunities
abound. In warmer months, typically May-October, canoe traffic
glides by.

Canoeing
/ Kayaking:
We offer two kayaks at each of our homes.
(The photo shows a kayak passing by our Northwoods Lodge in autumn.)
Whether you choose a kayak or canoe trip, or just a relaxing float
trip or raft ride, this peaceful portion of the Russian River
is a beautiful place to unwind..

Spring:
The
signs of spring arrive early with tender blades of new grass appearing
shortly after the new year. Spring can be beautiful and balmy.
By May, the river has usually become suitable for kayaking, canoeing,
and other activities.
Summer:
Healdsburg's Mediterranean climate is mild year
round. It is dry (semi-arid) in the summer, with summer temperatures
ranging between 70 and 95 degrees, usually cooling to the 50's
overnight. Year 'round it is smog-free and mosquitoes are scarce.
Summer is the high season for water sports, with swimming, boating,
and lots of ways to enjoy aquatic fun!
Fall:
In
the fall, our weather is typically warm, clear, sunny and summer-like.
Swimming and boating are usually possible until November.
Winter:
The
average rainfall is forty inches with temperatures ranging from
28 degrees in the overnight to 60 degrees during the day, December
through February. We are 30 miles from the Pacific Coast, and
the relatively warm Humboldt current keeps us temperate and free
of snowy conditions. Native steelhead and salmon swim upstream
to spawn during the winter months and provide exciting fishing
opportunities.
